Stefan and I have been either sick or recovering for about two weeks now. We're very glad to be getting through it. As parents from the beginning of time have discovered, kids don't stop just because you get sick!! Luckily we seemed to be the "most sick" at different times so we could help each other out.
Kid updates: Jameson is starting to understand what we say. He can identify fans very well and can occasionally identify his parents or his sibling. He also likes playing with his lion "Torrie" who was, at one time, somewhat similar in appearance to Pirmy.
Alex just got his first suit. The "real" purpose of the suit is for Mike and Jurate's wedding. But, we took advantage of Easter sales and bought it last weekend. Alex and I did a whirlwind trip through the mall and got the suit, a green shirt, a yellow tie, black socks, "shiny black shoes," and an outfit for Jameson. (note: he wore the three pairs of black socks all week, despite wearing his sweats... is he destined to become one of those older men who wears black dress socks with shorts and sandals??) Here are pictures of the boys dressed up for Easter. We were running a little late, so the pictures aren't as posed as I would have liked them to be.
Yes, that is a strainer that Jameson is holding in the first picture. He gets bored so easily that we have to be creative to keep him entertained. Kitchen implements are always a hit.
On that note, I don't remember Alex getting bored as easily as Jameson does. Don't get me wrong, he's a happy baby, but he does like new and interesting things. So when he starts to get fussy and he's well fed and rested, we have to find something to entertain him with, whether it is giving him new objects to explore, taking him down the basement (a whole new set of toys!) or getting outside.
Alex got a "light saber" for Easter, so he spent the next few days doing nothing but playing with it. The light saber totally absorbed his waking (and probably sleeping) hours. I would leave for work and he would have it sitting on the breakfast table, and I would come home and he would still have it with him! It has slowed down a little, but he talks about Star Wars frequently.
Monday night, after Easter, we had dinner at my boss's house with all of the senior cadets. The night before Alex decided to wear his suit to dinner. I walked into his room to tuck him in, and found every part of his suit spralled out on the floor. What?? We had carefully hung it up hours earlier. He said that he wanted to be able to put it on very quickly the next morning! I'm managed not to smile or laugh too much as I explained to him that it would be better to keep it hung up and put it on right before dinner. It was great to see his excitement. (note: he changed his mind during the day on Monday. With great parental persuasion, we managed to get him into his dress shirt and blazer for the dinner. However, two minutes after walking in the door he stripped down to his t-shirt!! oh well, we tried)
It's been a busy week with work. On Saturday morning, we had the final end-of-term parade with the cadets. Alex has gone to nearly every one of them with me, so he elected to skip gymnastics to come see my last parade as a ROTC instructor. He are some pictures of the parade:
Just for comparison's sake, here's a picture of Alex and I at our first parade in December 2004. He was three.
After the parade we came home to change before going to the end-of-term picnic. We took Jameson with us to give Stefan a break. Unfortunately, the picnic was outside and it was quite a chilly day. Jameson's hands got cold, and he very vocally objected to it!! But, we got him warmed up enough to tolerate most of the event. Alex was thrilled with the attention from the cadets (thanks Killebrew and Brakora). He also "scored" (using his language) because the cadets gave him a bat, three balls, and a light-up hool-a-hoop after the games were over. On the way home he had to call Daddy to tell him about it.
Today at lunch Stefan handed Jameson a spoon with refried beans on it. Jameson had a blast. He really likes trying to use utensils (although most of the time he just bangs them!). Here's the result:
Alex convinced me to take him swimming this afternoon. He's been wanting to go since he got his mask, snorkel ("snorgel") and fins. We went to Washtenaw County Rec pool. I hadn't been there since I was pregnant with Jameson! Alex's swimming has really improved with the lessons at the YMCA.
