It was Friday night, and the first week of school was complete. The night came together as if we had scripted it. Grilling out. Eating outside on the deck. Making a fire. Rushing inside for s'mores ingredients.
Then, we sat back and observed as they found their own ways to fill up the night, to find their creativity, to find some release after "holding it together" through the start of another school year.
A few moments later, we looked over to find one shaping a wooden spear in the fire and the other working on his archery skills. These quiet snapshots, tucked between dinner and dusk and structured activity, are the moments where the real learning takes place.
