Our sixth soccer season is upon us. We all went to the game on Saturday---but we barely made it out the door.
Jameson bursts into the day with a vengeance, letting everyone know that he is awake, alert, and ready for business. He declared that he wished it was a Short Day---a day that he could wear shorts. A few moments later, he ran around the house naked, waving his swimsuit (!!) over his head while growling. Later in the morning he was found beating his brother with a Chinese yo-yo. When the offending toy was taken away (and the offending boy put into time-out) we were all subjected to wails of protest and complaint.
Alex slowly entered the day, preferring to stay nestled in his covers. He spent some time reading his Lego Star Wars book, and then a much longer period of time explaining to me the intricacies of one set or another (it all blurs together after a while). He resisted getting up, he resisted getting dressed, he resisted getting ready for soccer, and he very loudly resisted his brother's zealous display of affection.
Somehow, he ended up in tears too. I think it had to do with hints that computer time would be restricted later in the day because he hadn't taken care of a few important responsibilities.
So there we had it... both boys in tears, the soccer game start time looming, and it was our week to bring the snacks to the game.
Eventually we all got out the door with enough time to pause for bagels, muffins and hot drinks at the cafe of Plum Market after purchasing the snacks. As I tightly gripped my caffeinated beverage, I looked at these boys of mine with just a bit of awe and wonder. Despite the complicated start, it was looking to be a great day.
