FIRE!

There's nothing that spices up an evening quite like coming home to find the back-yard on fire.

(the fact that my family considered it a major celebration and cooked some hot dogs over the fire just goes to show you what we like to do for fun)

The church behind our house had hired our friend, Dave Borneman, to do a controlled burn in the woods surrounding the church, and happen to border our back-yard. Dave was kind enough to throw some extra flames towards some leaves in our little section of the woods that the previous owners left.

The fire is supposed to get rid of invasive species (like Buckthorn). For my kids, it was all about the cool fire tools that Dave and his crew use. I was more interested in the fire safety and water-spraying tools, but that's the price of growing up. Jameson looked at Dave in awe, and pronounced that he wanted to work for him when he grows up. Gustie joined us in watching the rare event, and then in the absence of marshmellows--we forgot to stock up before the big event--we dug some hot dogs out of Gustie's fridge for the afore-mentioned hot dog roasting.

Looking back at these pictures now I can't believe how old Alex looks, or how much both boys need a haircut.
