Remembering ten years ago, and the awe-inspiring moments of holding a tiny baby boy after a challenging and painful surgery. The weeks and months and years that have followed have challenged and grown both of us more than I could have imagined----but I'm still in awe of him.
As he sits right now at the kitchen table, still wearing this orange shirt--the one birthday surprise that I really, truly feel a sense of accomplishment for--he's devouring a new book. He's this perfect mix between boy and the young man he's starting to become, shifting between serious discussions about life and careers to detailed descriptions of snow forts and playground tricks.
Happy Birthday, Alex!
