Yesterday I got to attend a special event at school. Alex's kindergarten class works with a fifth grade class once a week. All of the kindergartners are assigned "Fifth Grade Buddies" who they read with and do other projects with. It is a big hit with both groups---apparently within a week or two the "Buddy" pairs had really bonded. Alex loves his "Buddy" and talks about him often. (He was thrilled to the core when his Buddy came to trick-or-treat TWICE at our house!)
So, back to yesterday. The "Buddy" pairs went on stage one-by-one. The fifth grader wore two signs (one on front and one on back) while the kindergartner talked in to the microphone; they told who they were and what they were thankful for. The room was full of kids---Alex's teacher recruits an "audience"---and proud parents.
I didn't press the button quite early enough, so I missed "Hi my name is". But Alex is thankful for his Mars Mission Lego set and his buddy is thankful for his Mom. (yes, those are a few chuckles from parents after Alex's item!)
The variety of items they were thankful for was fun to listen to... there were several "Mom" responses, as well as "my house," baseball, ice cream, friends, buddies, dogs, cats, etc. Alex's was the most specific as far as toys go, though!
