This weekend Alex went to an overnight camp!
It was SO MUCH FUN he told me, over and over and over.
It was a great program at Storer Camp, the same place Stefan developed his love of camp, the same place Stefan was a counselor and an environmental ed educator. Alex's program was called "First Timer's Camp" and was just for one short weekend, intended to introduce kids to camp activities and spark their interest for a one or two week session the following summer.
On the way there, Stefan and I gave each other glances. He seems awfully young for this. (although we had arranged special permission to let him go, even though he's not yet completed first grade, because Sylvie was going and he just seemed ready) What if he doesn't eat enough? (which made me extract promises from him to focus on EATING and not talking at mealtimes) What if he has trouble getting to sleep??
But all of our worries were swept away quickly. (I mean quickly--he was ready for us to leave 2 minutes after we arrived!) This kid was in his element... lots of activities, lots of kids, lots of peanut-butter-and-honey sandwiches... he had a blast.
For example, these are some of the activities for the one full day they were there: arts and crafts, visiting the critter rooms, horse-back-riding, swimming, and boating. (no wonder he had no trouble sleeping!)
Definitely a worthwhile investment.
