Catching up

So I know that I haven’t been as writing as much as usual… somehow, upon the return from the Pelee Island trip, life just caught up with me. Doing laundry, keeping the house clean, taking care of the kids, and going to work was all that I could manage.

Oh, and a few trips to the art fair. But that’s another story.

So I looked forward to a nice quiet weekend to catch up. Lo and behold, our realtor had a different weekend in mind, with a showing on Saturday and an open house on Sunday. So we diligently cleaned (again and again and again… our house has never looked this good) and then took off Sunday for Flushing, Michigan, to visit Pop. (Stefan’s grandfather)
We hadn’t warned him we were coming, but he’s normally home on Sundays so we took a gamble. And it looked like our gamble wasn’t going to pay off… he wasn’t at home, he wasn’t at the cemetery… so we needed to waste some time before we could head back to Ann Arbor. So, we did what any parents would do with two young children fed up with being in the car, and went to the closest playground.

And despite a little bit of heat and humidity, we had a pretty good time.

Then we introduced the boys to an American traditional—the root beer float. That went over very well! Unfortunately, the other customers at A&W showed us a little bit about how food service jobs can be so awful… poor teenagers getting yelled at over a hotdog.

But I digress… just when we finally settled in to our family’s favorite activity (throwing rocks into water) we called Pop again and he was HOME.

We got in the car as soon as we could drag the boys away from the rock-throwing, and drove over for hugs, haircuts, and pizza. And the ritual spoiling of the great-grandchildren.
Alex knew right what to do, and got down to business. There was a dum-dum lollipop on the line, after all.

Jameson... he was a different story. He wanted that lollipop badly, but didn't want to get up in the chair. And without his usual nap, there seemed to be no reasoning. Finally, sitting on Daddy's lap was a decent compromise. More or less.

And you know the best part? I came home to a clean house.
