Time to install video conferencing

I was reading one of my favorite blogs, Soule Mama, the other day when there was a passage that spoke to me. It was actually written by Amanda Blake Soule's husband, who occasionally writes a guest post on the site. Here was the line that was particularly potent:

I find it exponentially more difficult to live in the present while feeling responsible for so many futures.

Granted, he is responsible for four futures, which I can't even imagine, when two boys keep us busy enough. The constant thoughts of feeding, clothing, planning, teaching, saving for college, and so many other responsibilities that come with parenting can make it difficult to just enjoy these little people as they are right here, right now.

The exception, of course, is when they are so funny, so adorable, that you can't help but be filled with big belly laughs (and run for the camera).

Jameson was on the phone with Stefan's Mom. He was talking excitedly about the painting he had completed earlier that day. He was so excited, in fact, that it wasn't enough just to talk about it... he needed her to see it. So he ran over to the painting and held up the phone so she could see it.

"Soule Papa" was right. Sometimes the present is just so enjoyable that there's no reason to agonize over the future.

Google chat now has video chat built into it. It's a 30-second download and it works great. My parents got to have some quality face time with my two the other day, and it was really cool.
