Most of you know that Stefan and I met through a student group founded upon lots of canoeing and other outdoors activities. One of the fortunate things about being back in Ann Arbor is that we can maintain our ties to this group as alumni. And, let me tell you, the current crop of college kids heading up this group is quite a gathering of interesting characters! (some of their activities include ice climbing, winter camping, adventurous cooking, spelunking, even battling frost-bite)
This weekend was a gathering, of sorts, and we joined them for a couple of events. These pictures are from a gathering at a local park, where although it was snow-covered, was actually a decent temperature (for Michigan, in March, anyway). The newest members decided to cook up "pear pancakes," which weren't too bad, considering the extra bits of flavor that the "char" added, and some eggs with spinach.
More delightful for me was seeing my boys entertaining--and being entertained--by some of the college kids. And, of course, we all enjoyed some much-needed time outside.
These college kids aren't the best on timing, so we brought our own provisions, just in case we missed them. Stefan and I remarked on how wonderful it was, within the space of a city block, to shop at Zingerman's (a nationally recognized deli), the beginnings of the season's farmer's market, and Alex's favorite Saturday-morning-outing-with-Mama-coffee-shop.
And so, heading out of town on a sunny day while sipping hot coffee, driving to a beautiful park on the Huron River, with satisfied boys in the back-seat (as long as I kept Jameson supplied with chunks of muffin) and fresh bread and cheese at the ready... is there really anything more a girl could want?
