What could these two be scheming about?

Talking about the day at school?

Planning on taking over the world?

Perhaps they are comparing notes, from when Alex recruited him to help spy on girls. (gee, I was never so proud as when I heard about that)

Maybe they are reading notes from Stefan, who has discovered that writing little notes is a great way to praise positive behavior with these two new readers (and encourage more of the same!).

I think they could be looking at a little plastic contraption of Alex's, which he thinks can help him predict the weather (and alternately do several other things, depending on the day).

Regardless, these two buddies seem to be enjoying the walk.
