Subcontracting: Last week, Stefan was doing some yard work in the front yard. He offered Alex a few dollars if he would help him clean up. Alex willingly agreed, since he’s saving for another lego set and is hoarding any dollar he can get his hands on.
Outsourcing: Alex is getting smart, though, and realized that he might be able to get a little help on this project of his. Jameson was summoned, and he immediately went to work. Since Jameson doesn’t understand money, much less saving for Legos, Alex wasn’t about to pay him a portion of his earnings.
Off-shore (err… cross-street) outsourcing: The final step in our little lesson in procurement came when two boys from across the street were interesting in all this activity in our front yard. When they walked over with their mother, they immediately went to work too. So for a few glorious minutes, Entrepreneur Alex had three helpers, all working towards earning him extra cash for those Legos.
It was a great system until the toys of the backyard proved more interesting than picking up yard scraps!
