The boys never made it to the wedding, though. We had two wonderful aunts come and stay in the hotel with us--and they took the boys for the evening. There were several pools and a game room, and this caused no end of excitement.
You can imagine the conversations on the way there...
AUNT ANGIE AUNT DAR-WEEN TAKE ME SIMMING!
Yes, Jameson, they will take you swimming.
AUNT ANGIE AUNT DAR-WEEN PUT ON MY SIM-SUIT AND SIM DIAPER AND TAKE ME TO SIMMING POOL!
Yes, Jay-Jay, they will take you to the pool.
I WAN TO GO TO SIMMING POOL NOW!
As you can see, Jameson was clearly upset at all the spoiling and attention that these two wonderful aunts gave him. (ha! he relished every minute)
Alex is much more sophisticated, and so his excitement level wasn't nearly as visible as his brother's---who stripped himself of his clothes and ran out into the hallway naked (!!) in his rush to speed up those adults who insisted on bringing in the luggage to the hotel room before swimming.
But if you get Alex around a bunch of arcade games--where you win tickets that you can cash in for candy--you'll see his excitement. And even he can't resist the excitement of a swimming pool.
Meanwhile, Stefan and I enjoyed the ceremony and the reception---mostly because I got to spend time with many of my former students (many of them now Air Force officers).
The next day, we roamed around town and ended up watching the most adorable little Memorial Day parade--consisting of a small marching band, two groups of veterans, and a couple of groups of scouts. In my opinion, it was just about the perfect length for a parade. Here's Jameson, excited and a little nervous about the marching band.
All in all, it was a great little trip... beautiful weather, great family time, and a quick break from work and household chores.
