A few months back, in an effort to stop Jameson from pulling things out of drawers or cabinets, Stefan made a really big deal when Jameson closed them instead of playing in them.
Yaayyy, J-Mo, we would all cheer, clapping and applauding. He smiled and giggled and clapped along.
So over the months, he's gotten better and better at this. He'll say, loudly, "Sha" (shut) and strongly push the drawer shut, and then bang his chubby little hands together, clapping for himself!
And I loved it---ingenious, isn't it?? Yet another parenting lesson from Stefan. His focus switched from spreading all the kitchen towels around the kitchen to obsessively shutting drawers.
(maybe too obsessively... are we creating a need for future therapy?? Will he be crazily obsessed with shutting doors and drawers as a grown up?? The questions parents ask...)
But, I digress. It was never so apparent how much this has become part of his little life than yesterday. Jameson was just out of his crib, sleepy and warm and sweet smelling and so, so cute in his little fleecy footed pajamas. He was wrapped up in his blanket and settled into my lap in the kitchen. We were enjoying a few moments of quiet cuddling before Alex came in to shake things up, and I went off into the world of databases and deadlines.
But, alas, the moment was broken as Jameson slipped out of my lap, sleepily stumbled over to the silverware drawer (which was open 3 inches) and shoved it shut. "Sha," he said. Then he walked to the pantry, shut the door, and gave himself three quick claps of applause before climbing back into my lap and resuming his cuddling.
Good boy, Jameson.
