February, the longest month of the year?

Alex said to me yesterday, "twelve months in a year... that's not much!"

And really it isn't. Most months, and years even, seem to fly by and only go faster and faster. Except February. This month seems to have been going on for years... one cold snowy day after another.

Friday and Saturday we had a bit of a heat wave, when the temperature got up to 38 degrees. That seemed really warm after, say, 8 degrees a few days earlier, and I even broke out a lighter coat for running errands. Jameson and I got out for a jog on Friday and relished in a tiny bit of sunshine. (suuu.... suuu.... suuu.... Jameson said, pointing at that odd thing up in the sky that he was clearly not used to seeing)

Living with a toddler has its advantages, one of them is the chance to see life through his eyes. When Jameson and an older man exchanged smiles and giggles at the coffee shop yesterday, the man asked "is he always like this?" And my response was---either at one extreme or another, and isn't that the truth these days.

He's always happy to go outside, regardless of the weather. (take note, self, at this attitude!) Shoveling and sweeping snow---lots of fun! Coming inside because everyone else is frozen, or there are groceries to put away---not much fun at all! Seeing Mama with the bottle at bed-time, along with finding Torrie the lion and Blankie, and then settling into a chair to cuddle and drink the bottle... such excitement! Enough excitement to trot down the hall and yelp with delight!

Last night Jameson was just getting out of the bath when our friend Jenni came to get pick up Sylvie, who had been playing with Alex. Our little streaker ran laps around the kitchen and living room, buck naked and screaching with delight, while the rest of us just carried on talking (and chuckling at him). Ahh... to be a toddler...

Jameson is also thrilled when he can do things that his brother does. And recently, Alex has been doing "research" for a science project on dinosaurs. Mostly, this research involves either Daddy reading dinosaur books to him, or watching DVDs on dinosaurs. He also started taking notes, which of course Jameson wanted to do, too. Here's a picture of my two boys, taking notes. Alex took "twelve whole notes, Mama" while Jameson, not to be outdone, filled 4 pages with notes, mainly drawing "cee--ceee" (circles, or at least attempts at circles).
