But... it was fun to see Alex discover the animals... he had claimed a few weeks ago, when I was talking up a future visit to Tantre Farms (where we bought a share of vegetables for the season!) that he "didn't really like farms at all." So I was a little cautious as we entered the barn, with all the animal smells, that Alex was shrink away and ask when the bus came back (because the bus is the real fun of field trips, obviously). But he stepped up, observed and pointed and laughed and delighted in checking out the animals.
My respect for kindergarten teachers grew by the minute, as the little kids zoomed and darted around, making it quite difficult for me to keep track of the group of kids I was in charge of. How do they control them?? How do they step into that classroom, by nature full of chaos, every day??
After the formal presentation, and the petting of animals and the itchy hay ride (why are those popular, anyway?), we had FORTY MINUTES of unstructured time, in the misty rain, in which to keep track of these kids. In beautiful weather, this would have been simple. But with the misty, cold rain, we were a little more challenged.
So we took silly pictures and looked some more at the animals, and took more silly pictures and ran a few races.
The huge pig needed to be visited again, and Alex's teacher bought some carrots that were distributed around for feeding to the animals. So we filled up our time, had some good laughs, but all in all, I was pretty glad to had back to a warm, dry car!
